Laguna Backpack Program

5 families at Laguna receive weekend food that their teens bring home in school backpacks.  Thanks to Vanessa Fujimoto for her leadership, and all the volunteers who make this program so meaningful.

Volunteers include:  Linda Collins, Roberta Filadelfia, Esther Funke, Michele Hall, Donna Jeberjahn, Nanette Tarpinian, Lainie Wachter, and Arlene Yost.  Megan Healy, Laguna counselor, Michaela Ricca, high school student, and intern, Katy Bangs, provide incredible support.

Marianne, the counselors' secretary, said that the children that participated last year would not make eye contact with her; his year they not only make eye contact, but are smiling.  Another District employee who works with some of the teens in this program mentioned that, "These children are the poorest of the poor and so look forward to meals during the weekend."

Turkey Event a Success

Tim Kubinski, former major league baseball player, in conjunction
with the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department, sponsored a
baseball camp for boys and girls aged 5 through 18, on November 12 and
13. Price of admission was a frozen turkey. Turkeys were donated to
the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo, and Womenade distributed
turkeys to the San Luis Obispo Women's Shelter, San Luis Obispo Child
Development Center, Family Care Network, and families served by San Luis
Obispo County public health nurses. Special thanks to Kaney Foods for storing
the turkeys until they could be delivered by Marcie and John Lindvall, Linda and Peter
Jankay, and Linda Bishop.  Thanks, also, to Chris Lindvall for donating his time
at the park.

National Exchange Club of San Luis Obispo

The National Exchange Club of San Luis Obispo donated $500 to Womenade.  Tom Swem, on behalf of the Board of Directors, made the presentation.  All funds will go to meet child-related needs in our community.
